Lagos, Nigeria: Alhaji Abubakar Rimi one of Nigerian’s flamboyant politicians has been confirmed dead following health complications he allegedly developed after an Armed Robbery attack.
Abubakar Rimi convoy was attacked by armed robbers on his way from Bauchi to Kano between Takai and Wudil road between the hours of 10:00pm- 10:30pm on Sunday night 4th April 2010.
Rimi in company of his younger brother Malam Sule Sa’a was said to be returning from the occasion of the presentation of the staff of office to the Emir of Dass in Bauchi State, Usman Bilyaminu Othmas, when he was waylaid in his sports utility vehicle (SUV) by armed bandits who though did not attack him personally but inflicted injuries on his younger brother Sa’a after collecting money and other valuables items from them
Rimi was said to have been devastated with the injuries inflicted on his brother and immediately developed complications ostensibly from shock and was later pronounced dead by Doctors at about 11:00pm on the same Sunday night on arrival at the Aminu Kano University Teaching Hospital in kano.
Sadly, this singular incident has officially cut short the life of a prominent Nigerian who in his days as Governor of Kano State identified more with the ordinary Nigerians
Though Nigerians from all sides of the divide rose up in unison to condemn the untimely death of Rimi. Majority have described it as shameful and unacceptable the manner and way his life was cut short. Blaming the entire ugly incident on the Nigerian government’s inability to provide security for its citizens across the length and breath of country.
Rimi’s death is another wake-up call to all Nigerians to ensure the right people are put in the right position in the country and while at the same time government should always be alive to its responsibilities.
“Nigeria is the only country in the world with outrageous power outages. It is the only country where lives are wasted daily due to bad roads and armed robberies incidents. Nigerian is the only country a fine progressive politician and former governor would die due to complications arising from armed robbery.
Adieu! Abubakar Rimi: 1940-2010
